Literacy
-Recognizing letters and learning letter sounds in the alphabet.
Zoo-phonics is our main reading program. It is a method developed to make children strong readers and spellers using a “phono” (hearing), “oral” (speaking), “visual” (seeing), “kinesthetic” (moving), and tactile (touching) -whole brain approach. Zoophonics uses animals drawn in the shapes of the letters. A related body movement is given to each letter.
- We read a variety of genres everyday to the class, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and nursery rhymes.
Math - Students learn patterns, colors, shapes, sorting, counting, and measurement. We also use Heidisongs to teach numbers and shapes.
Social/Emotional Skills - Sharing, taking turns, and building friendships are taught through play, discussion, and small group activities. Students also begin to learn manners and ways to regulate and express their emotions and ideas.
